For 2026, we honor Ralph's Diner
Ralph's Diner was built in 1930 and originally operated as the Chadwick Square Diner. Built by the Worcester Lunch Car Company, the diner's first home was 414 Grove Street in the Chadwick Square neighborhood of Worcester, Massachusetts. Ralph Moberly acquired the diner in 1979 at which time the diner was moved once again from Main Street to 148 Grove Street where it now resides.
This move created the Ralph's Rock Diner that Worcester knows today; the historic diner car combined with a bar and entertainment area. Over the years, Ralph's has developed a reputation as a popular, live music venue, particularly important to Worcester's punk, hardcore, and metal scenes, while continuing to serve diner staples. For nearly 50 years, Ralph's has been a home for local musicians.
In 2002, Ralph's was purchased by Vincent Hemmeter. Today, it remains a unique collaboration of pre-World War II commercial development, diner and rock club. Although the original lunch car remains at the heart of the establishment, it is surrounded by bars, pool tables, live music, karaoke, poetry, comedy and countless other events.
In 2003, Ralph's Diner was added to the prestigious National Register of Historic Places as “The Chadwick Square Diner.”
